Geoff Johns and Ethan Van Sciver bring Hal Jordan back from the dead and explain his fall: the yellow impurity in the rings was Parallax, a fear entity that possessed Hal. Kyle Rayner, John Stewart, Guy Gardner and Kilowog all have a part to play in freeing him, and Sinestro returns as the villain behind it all.
Rebirth is the starting point for the modern Green Lantern saga, and almost everything since builds on it.
