Green Lanterns: Bad Boys for Light, one of three new DC GO! series DC announced this fall, has launched, according to a post on X from the series artist's account (@SteelScarlet).

The post points readers to dcuniverseinfinite.com/go, where the series is free to read. You can also read it in the DC Universe Infinite app (DCUI).

The cover shows Hal and John back to back in mid-flight, both firing off bright yellow-green construct blasts against a dark starfield. Hal is grinning and John is looking back over his shoulder.

What it is

DC GO! is the publisher's mobile-first webcomics imprint. Everything is built for vertical scrolling on a phone, and DC has said original series run 26 episodes per season, released weekly or bi-weekly.

Bad Boys for Light follows Hal and John as they dig into evidence that some of the universe's coldest cases are connected. The credits on the series itself list Brandon T. Snider as writer, Jo Mi-gyeong on art and color, Pat Brosseau on letters and Michael McCalister as editor.

The style is loose and expressive, with flat color and soft shading, a long way from a standard monthly. In this panel John looks wary and Hal looks like he's up to something, which tells you a lot about the dynamic before a word of dialogue.

Why it matters

A Hal and John team-up is not new. Putting it on a phone, for free, in a format aimed at readers who've never set foot in a comic shop, is. With the Lanterns series on HBO this year, there's a real audience of new fans looking for somewhere to start, and a free scroll is about the lowest barrier DC could build.

We'll be reading along and covering it here on Green Lantern Watch.
