Emerald Dawn retold Hal Jordan's origin for the post-Crisis DC Universe. Hal is a former test pilot whose life is falling apart when the dying Abin Sur crashes on Earth and his ring chooses Hal as his successor. The killer Abin Sur was chasing, Legion, follows the ring's trail to Earth.

Hal meets Tomar-Re, trains under Kilowog on Oa and has to stop Legion when it breaks into the Guardians' home. It was later followed by Emerald Dawn II, and replaced in modern continuity by Secret Origin.
