Atrocitus is one of the few survivors of the Manhunter massacre in Sector 666, which the Guardians caused. His rage at them is so complete that he founded the Red Lantern Corps to channel it.
He's a monster, but an unusually clear-headed one. Unlike most Red Lanterns he keeps his intelligence while wearing a red ring.
