Alan Scott is the original Green Lantern, from 1940. He isn't a member of the Corps. His power comes from the Starheart, a mystical source rather than the Guardians' battery, and he wields it through a ring he charges from a green lantern.

Alan was a founding member of the Justice Society of America, and many of the Earth Lanterns look up to him as a mentor figure.
